Environmental Implications - Without smarter water resources management, a growing world with more people and more activities will demand more water and create more pollution, breaking the boundaries of sustainability of water resources utilization.Social Implications - The urban population in Johannesburg Metropolitan area is expected to reach 6.5 Million from 4.4 million by 2040, however it hosts over 9,6 million in Gauteng, including adjustment urban areas, with up to 70% of people concentrated in cities and informal settlements. This will lead to increased pressure on local water resources, stemming from greater withdrawals and pollution.
