La Shasta Shoes Genuine Leather Handcrafted Sandals By Pungie La Shasta Shoes is a proudly South African brand with our shoes being designed and manufactured in Park Rynie, a small resort town on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The business was founded in 1974 by Mr Dhanabalan Kesiveloo (Pungie) as a family run footwear manufacturer. Mr Kesiveloo was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal and had started his career in the shoe industry at the age of 20, where he worked for two well known shoe manufacturers in the area. At the young age of 24 he went on to open his own shoe manufacturing business from his one bedroom home with the support and assistance from his wife and they supplied the local shoe shops. He then successfully opened his own shoe factory and employed workers from the surrounding areas. He manufactured genuine leather and synthetic shoes and sandals using only the highest quality material. He designed his own unique styles and also incorporated the South African ethnic look. By supplying customers in Durban, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, and other areas his shoes were soon sold all over South Africa. The business was first named Jody’s shoes after the birth of his first son Jody. He later went on to rename the business to JoGav shoes incorporating both his sons’ names, namely Jody and Gavin. The family then relocated to the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal and the factory was also moved. The factory now manufactured only genuine leather handcrafted sandals to curb the growing influx of foreign trade. With locals currently importing cheaper quality shoes and sandals, Mr Kesiveloo’s idea to manufacture proudly South African products proved to be a success and supplied more than 44 well known fashion houses in Johannesburg alone. Sadly Mr Kesiveloo passed on in the year 2008 but before his passing he named the business La Shasta Shoes. After Mr Kesiveloo’s passing his sons continued to run the business. His eldest son Jody had started designing new sandals in keeping with his father’s ethnic designs but incorporated new colours and ideas to keep up with the current trends. It proved successful seeing that both young and old were catered for. Mr Jody Kesiveloo is currently one of the youngest shoe manufacturing and designing persons in South Africa and he is continuing with his father’s legacy. We at La Shasta use only the highest quality material and provide good workmanship to every pair made, ensuring customer satisfaction. We also cater for persons who require custom made sandals. All our leather uppers are made from the finest full grain leather which is sourced from the best tanneries.
